HOW VUKA AZANIA WAS ESTABLISHED
Dr Muzi Sikhakhane SC, Reverend Dr Allan Boesak, Mr Arthur Fraser, and Professor Isaac Shai hereby present and declare the establishment of Vuka Azania as a decolonial and anticolonial advocacy think tank and black civil society formation.
Vuka Azania is rooted in Black Consciousness — Steve Biko's philosophy of self-determination that calls upon black people to break the chains of mental slavery and self-doubt. It draws from Pan-Africanism — the conviction that our prosperity, security and future are indivisible from the prosperity, security and future of the entire African Continent. And it is grounded in Land Restoration — the understanding that land is central to life, culture, freedom, spirituality, dignity, knowledge and peace.
Vuka Azania is not a political party. It is not established for any electoral contestations. It is a liberation-oriented think tank, advocacy body, and civil society vehicle established to advocate for the betterment of the Black Condition and to advance programmes directed at African restoration, land return, economic emancipation and justice, cultural rebirth, decolonised education, decolonised constitutionalism and the sovereignty of Azania.

A self-determined Azania where black people own their land, control their wealth, govern their lives and walk in dignity; where all are fed, housed, educated, safe, employed, culturally rooted and free to dream.
WHAT WE DECLARE
Land
We declare that the land of Azania belongs to the African people. It was taken by force through wars of dispossession, and it must be returned without compensation. Land is not a commodity — it is the foundation of our sovereignty, our spirituality, and our survival.
Wealth
We declare that the mineral wealth, the oceans, the rivers, the skies, and all natural resources of Azania belong to the people. They must be nationalised and used to serve the collective prosperity of the African majority — not the enrichment of a colonial minority or a comprador elite.
Education
We declare that the education system must be decolonised from its foundations. African children must be taught African history, African philosophy, African science, and African languages as the primary instruments of knowledge and consciousness.
Culture
We declare that African culture, spirituality, and indigenous knowledge systems must be restored to their rightful place as the moral, intellectual, and social compass of our society. We reject cultural imperialism in all its forms.
Legal System
We declare that the legal system — inherited from colonialism — must be fundamentally restructured to serve the interests of the African majority. Justice must be restorative, not punitive; it must reflect African values of ubuntu, collective responsibility, and communal harmony.
Renaming Azania
We declare that this land shall be known as Azania. The name "South Africa" is a geographical imposition by European colonisers. Azania is an African name with deep historical roots — and its restoration is an act of reclaiming our identity and our narrative.
Vision
Our vision is a self-determined Azania where black people own their land, control their wealth, govern their lives and walk in dignity — where all are fed, housed, educated, safe, employed, culturally rooted and free to dream.

Vuka Azania will raise resources from patriots within and beyond the borders of this country who are committed to the restoration of African history, dignity, and the total emancipation of Black people.

OUR VALUES
Land & Sovereignty
We rise because our forebears fought against European conquest of their land — for they understood the centrality of land to life, culture, freedom, spirituality, dignity, knowledge and peace.
Black Consciousness
We rise to break the chains that tie black people to mental slavery and self-doubt. We rise to revive the cause of Black Consciousness and self-determination.
Pan Africanism
We rise because Pan Africanism reminds us that our prosperity, security and future are indivisible to the prosperity, security and future of the entire African Continent.
Anti-Colonial Resistance
We rise because the core architecture of settler colonialism and racial capitalism remains intact. Political freedom without land, wealth, dignity, memory and power is incomplete.
